The Ferry

Tickets can be bought online, or at the three depart­ure points :

• Online at www.elding.is 
• Old Harbour in Reykjavik Elding Whale Watching ticket office
• Harpa Concert hall, at the reception desk
• Viðey ticket­ office at Skarfagarðar

Gestur is the main ferry boat and takes up to 38 passengers on each ride. Other boats are availa­ble for lar­ger groups and/or special occasions.

The Reykjavík City Card, which inclu­des free trans­fer to and from Viðey, is sold at the City Hall and many museums, hotels & travel agencies.

Elding Whale Watching is a family-owned comp­any that has run whale-watching tours and other advent­ures at sea since 2000. On behalf of the city of Reykjavík Elding has run the ferry to Viðey Island since 2007.

Elding cares a great deal about the delicate and beautiful nature in and around Viðey. The comp­any is EarthCheck certified and their boats carry the Blue flag. In 2008 the comp­any recei­ved the Environmental Award of the Icelandic Tourist Board and cont­inual environmental improvements are an integral part of their business.
